What? Balance Festival

Where? Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch London
Last weekend Balance Festival opened its’ doors to an ocean of fitness fanatics, health foodies and some really fantastic brands! So, I took one for the team, and dragged myself along… kicking and screaming…. Ha! I’m kidding, I absolutely LOVED it!! But for those of you who couldn’t make it, here’s a little taster of my favourite bits, so you can make sure you don’t miss out next year!
Class: HIIT vs. Yoga … with Tameka Small and Julie Montagu

HIIT training and vinyasa flow, the most unlikely combination yet, paired together. How on earth would this EVER work, I thought? So of course, I had to give it a try!
The class started with a warm up (of course) and then straight into hardcore HIIT. Then, just at the point you don’t think you can carry on anymore, BAM your back to yoga! Then, just as you’ve finally got your breath back, (whilst secretly hoping noones spotted your massive wedgie mid-way through downward-facing dog) BAM, you’re thrown back into HIIT! This class really works up a sweat, and leaves you feeling absolutely knackered, and super energised all at once!
Talk: Re-Nourish your Mind and Body … with Rhiannon Lambert
Registered Nutritionist and Founder of Rhitrition, the gorgeous Rhiannon Lambert talked us through her journey and how she got to where she is today. As a previously obsessed calorie-counter, a lot of what she talked about really rang true for me. This was a fantastic talk which really focused on one real key message – ultimately there is no quick fix, it’s all about the journey, forget the fad diets, it’s all down to the lifestyle choices you choose to make. What works for one person doesn’t work for everyone, you’re all unique, and your bodies are too!
Some of what Rhiannon spoke about, I had learnt from my own experiences, but I am the first to admit that I am certainly no nutritionist, so listening about this from someone who really knows her stuff and a whole lot more, made for a really interesting and inspiring talk!
Food: An acai bowl …. from House of Acai
So I always thought of an acai bowl as a breakfast item. Oh how very wrong I was… In the Refuel Bar, this stand was absolutely heaving, literally all day long! I thought to myself, they must be doing something right here, I’ll have one of these! Except… I’d already had lunch, and nibbled my way through many of the stands in the Balance market, but I HAD done a HIIT class and yoga class by this point – and I KNOW that technically it was just one class combined, but I totally worked out TWICE as hard, so I most definitely deserved it!! Haha! Well that’s what I told myself anyway.
These were delicious, and actually a snack/meal you can eat and feel good about! Acai berries are the source of this bowl (surprisingly enough!) and jam-packed full of antioxidants, a fantastic energy boosting food. It also has amazing qualities which promote healthy digestion and is great for your skin too!
The people: our fitness family!
I absolutely love these kind of festivals, because more than anything it brings together the PEOPLE. All with the same common interest, whether it be fitness, healthy food and nutrition, fit fashion or wellbeing, all gathered together under one roof. I’m lucky enough to have some really great friends who are into all of that too, but it’s also so much fun meeting new people whilst you’re there! And without sounding super corny and absolutely cringe, you guys are all SO lovely!!
So if you unfortunately missed out on Balance Festival this year, or just made the mistake of not going, I think you can probably tell I would definitely recommend it! This event is definitely one to watch! So if you’re thinking of heading down next year, it’s so much fun, so grab a friend and get involved! I’ll see you there…
