Choco banana shakin’

Water, protein powder, shake it up, drink. Water, protein powder, shake it up, drink. Water, protein powder, shake it up, drink… ever get bored of the same old cycle? I keep getting asked what I eat/drink post-workout and my choice of protein powder etc so thought I’d share with you my favourite post-workout routine.

It really depends on what time you choose to do your workout to be honest. If you’re up early in the morning working out before breakfast, it really makes so much more sense to eat a protein-rich breakfast, rather than just downing a protein shake on-the-go. Don’t forget to include some healthy fats too though, they’re not the enemy!

Now if you’re hitting the gym or an exercise class on your lunch-break but haven’t eaten since breakfast, try and make sure you eat something small 45 minutes to an hour before you exercise. A banana or small handful of nuts works well as a nutritious energy boost pre-workout. Just make sure you leave it an hour before you exercise – noone likes to sweat their way through a stitch.

I sometimes get a little carried away with my evening and end up working out later, and sometimes I just choose to go later as I’m a sucker for an empty gym. On these days I’ll try and eat dinner early, workout later and then follow it with a protein shake. The regular protein powder/water mix can get a little boring after a while, so I’ve played around with a few different ingredients to get a nutritious and tasty mix, so here’s my favourite right now… It’s super easy, quick and simple.

Ingredients:
1 x banana
180ml almond milk
1 x flat scoop chocolate protein powder
(I use chocolate whey protein, but you can use whichever protein you choose…)
3 x ice cubes  (noone likes a warm shake!)

Method:
All you need is a blender, and these three simple ingredients.
The method is pretty obvious, but just in case its not – throw the ingredients all in a blender and blend away!

The almond milk goes all delicious and frothy and the banana really thickens it up. If you’re looking for a breakfast on-the-go, and don’t have much time, this is also a great alternative and super filling too! … Enjoy! x
